BULLDOG RADIO received an allocation in December of 2004 for new broadcasting equipment totaling over $6,700. The equipment has since been installed and is actively working in our station. Below is a list of items that are most important in our purchase.

Bulldog Radio's broadcasts are made possible by the Student Government of Ferris State University's Student Activity F
und.

Dell Optiplex GX280 Pentium 4 Workstation (1) and Servers (2)

One of these powerful machines will be used for the DJs to produce shows and commercials. One of the servers will be used to hold all of the music and the automation system, and the other server will be used to control the CG System (Channels 21 and 22 video feed) and the Webcasting streams.

AEQ BC306 Image

AEQ 6-Channel Audio Console with built in telephone hybrid

This console is used to control the output of the sound on the station. It is the newest console being offered by AEQ and includes a built in telephone hybrid, which will allow the station to record phone calls for use on air, or to broadcast remote gigs.

Electrovoice 309A Image ElectroVoice RE-20 Microphone with shock mount

This microphone is THE industry standard, offering the highest quality sound in a studio vocal microphone. Bulldog Radio is lucky enough to now possess one of these "hot" broadcast items.

Behringer MIC2200 Image Behringer Ultragain Pro Microphone Pre-Amplifier

This piece of equipment is necessary in order to amplify the microphones in the studio.

Behringer HA4700 Image Behringer PowerPlay Pro XL Headphone Amplifier

The headphone amplifier powers our headphones, as well as the out-of-studio monitors, and the signal going into the webcasting server.

Behringer MDX1600 Image Behringer AutoCom Pro Compressor/Limiter

A Compressor/Limiter makes sure the volume level and sound of Bulldog Radio is not too high, and not too low, making for an enriched listening experience.

Behringer HPS3000 Image Behringer Broadcast Closed-Ear Headphones

Behind every great radio station is a great pair of headphones. We have two pairs of these high-quality headphone monitors for the best reference.

Behringer B2030P Image Behringer Truth Self-Powered Studio Reference Monitors

Noticing a Behringer pattern? Thought so. We continue to trust Behringer for everything in our broadcast booth, including this great pair of studio monitors, allowing us to rock out...or mellow down, all to the rich, powerful sound of these industry-standard monitors.

Items that BULLDOG RADIO already possesses includes some of the following:

Peavey CD Mix 9072 Professional Mixing Board

This photo may not be of our mixer, but yes, this mixer is quite old, and quite outdated. It is now used for remote broadcasts that we do, and connects into our laptop to control the two microphones that we use.

Behringer EX3200 Image Behringer Ultrafex Pro Effect Processor and Noise Reducer

This processor is used to kick up the output sound of the station by adding a "spike" to the speaking voice, and also reduces noise such as feedback issues, mic taps, and more.

Sony 5-Disc CD Changer

Obviously used to play many CD's at once. This is also used in case the automated computer systems go down. Affectionately called "Robo DJ" on occasion.

Onkyo 6-Disc CD Changer

The Onkyo is the little brother of "Robo DJ." Onkyo had a history of problems back in the 'olden' days, but they have since cleared up, and is one of our most reliable and favorite pieces of equipment.

JVC Single-Disc CD Players (2)

These babies have kind of worn themselves down, but they are occasionally in operation for different uses...sometimes on remote broadcasts.

JVC Record/Playback Cassette Decks

Obviously mostly used to record shows for students so that they may have a record of their show and produce better ones in the future. This is called "airchecking."

Gemini Direct-Drive Manual Turntables (2)

Yes, you heard right. The industry standard Gemini Direct-Drive Turntable is one of the best for broadcast use. Not only do we use them in our studio, but we occasionally take them with on Mobile DJ gigs as well when vinyl is called for!

Nortel Networks M3904 Digital Telephone with Speakerphone, Headset and Applications

Quite possibly the best phone Ferris State University's Telecommunications Department has to offer. This phone logs all calls in and out of the station, and allows us to talk hands-free, as well as alerting us on-screen to the caller's number and location on campus.

Jazler Radio SimplePack Automation Software

This is today's version of "Robo DJ." Jazler controls our station 24-7-365 and does a great job doing it. We can program it to do almost anything with music, commercials, jingles and even shows on CD, with no extensive programming! This is why Bulldog Radio sounds so great all the time...thanks to Jazler Radio!
